THE G!RL WITH THE DRAGON FLY DREAMS - The dragonfly. A symbol of transformation, adaptability, and self-realization. Also a key inspiration for an artwork I painted in 2018. This artwork is inspired by the mental health epidemic plaguing the youth in America due to systemic inequalities such as poverty and racial inequality. This painting depicts a young girl with her eyes closed basking in the vibrancy of her inner-world and mind. Bright and luminescent flowers adorn her curly pony tails as a symbol of her beauty and strength. The dragonfly’s swarm around her as protection and guides while she navigates between worlds that feel both colorful and colorless. My intention with this artwork was to bring awareness to the challenges youth face regarding their mental health while also providing a sense of hope for the future despite. This work is a reminder to remember the power of the childlike imagination when unbound by the external circumstances that may threaten it.
